Patrick Lundeen engages with the creation of iconic imagery in his large cut-out canvases. Familiar or comforting symbols become strange as they are altered by Lundeen’s process. A figment of Lundeen’s imagination is represented by associating it with a found image that appears approximate, Lundeen then paints from that “reality’’. The painstaking process evident in Lundeen’s work is reflective of the impossibility of fully re-creating the original thought; small marks of paint are applied one by one resulting in the fragmentation of the image. Patrick Lundeen holds a master’s degree in visual arts from Concordia University. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and Europe; he is represented by Galerie PUSH in Montreal, Skew Gallery in Calgary, Alberta and Wetterling Gallery in Stockholm, Sweden. Galerie PUSH is proud to present Mad Masks Beyond the Vendome, from July 22 until September 11, 2010.
