sÉbastien lapointe /
Lapointe’s subject matter is extracted from gritty urban sidewalks and the heavily handled stacks of a music lover’s collection. These seemingly disparate objects unite under the rubric of sampling. Applying a clean photographic finish to
the worn and tattered, Lapointe displaces his record collection and captures sidewalk concert posters, pasting over their content with blank pages. Offering only parts of a whole, Lapointe signals fragments of information, bits and pieces that must be re-configured, questioned and appropriated by the individual in order to break the loop ending an otherwise eternal repetition.
